In this activity, students will be given a bundle of Chinese money and will use common Chinese phrases to try to purchase items from the instructor, who will be acting as a shop owner. Students will attempt to convince the shop owner to give them the most items for the best price.

In this activity students will discuss the phenomena of having a “side hustle.” Students will begin by playing a game where they try to guess different jobs based on their description, then will watch a video about “side hustles” in China/Taiwan and then discuss their opinions about “side hustles.”

This warm-up should instigate meaningful conversation about accommodations made for deaf people in the workplace. The main activity gives students the opportunity to host an interview and ask some significant and specific questions about another person.

Students will practice talking about events and holidays. They will discuss the ways in which they celebrate events with family and friends in the past. Students will also be able to identify how other cultures celebrate local or national holidays. They will recommend places to celebrate birthdays or go on dates in their city, and practice how to talk about past friendships or relationships.

In this activity, students will have the opportunity to create a campaign commercial to run as the new president of Boise State. They will practice using vocabulary related to governments and actions that political figures take. Students will be able to discuss preferences relating to politics and government.

In this activity students will discuss specific work life situations as well as things specific to getting a job or during the interview process. This brings in a real life situation to the lab to enhance discussion as well as learning.

In this activity, students will be playing a traditional bingo-style game (Lotería) in which they will listen to vocabulary and interpret what the word is in English. After the instructor has completed reading the lotería cards for the first round, the students will also have the opportunity to practice reading the Spanish words aloud.

Students will have a "Meet and Greet Party" where they will pretend to be someone else, such as "Shakira." They will practice introducing themselves, greeting others, and talking about how they feel. They will also learn greetings that are appropriate for different times of the day as well as quickly review the differences between tú and usted.

Students will learn about cognates, real and false. First, they will be introduced to cognates by guessing if certain words are real cognates or false cognates. Then, they will look through a series of Spanish ads and magazine clips to try to point out the Spanish-English cognates that are in the writing.

In this activity, students will practice vocabulary associated with school supplies. The activity facilitator will show a picture of an item and the first student that takes the item out of their backpack and says its name in the target language will receive a point. Students will also have the opportunity to show whether a statement applies to them, such as “having four roommates.” Students who have four roommates will be asked a follow-up question and if they can answer, they receive a point.

Students will learn about the days of the week and school subjects in Spanish. First, they will be asked to place the days of the week in order (for both the United States and Spanish speaking countries’ calendars). Then, they will be asked to share what day of the week they do a certain activity. Students will then practice describing and guessing various school subjects and days of the week.

Students will practice recognizing family member terms (i.e. abuela: grandma), describe family members, and accurately use vocabulary related to families in Spanish. They will acquire information about another individual’s family and will practice describing their own and others’ family members.

This activity will expose students to different types of currency from Spanish speaking countries. Students will purchase items through an “auction”. Students will practice numbers in Spanish and will also use adjectives to describe items that they can sell and buy. Students will persuade others to buy a product and make deals when purchasing the product.

In this activity, students will talk about their hobbies and what they like to do in their free time. During the warm up, a fun game will help students to review vocabulary and the main activity will provide numerous speaking opportunities.

Students will also respond to a multitude of questions regarding their likes/dislikes in a group conversation setting. Students will learn more about traveling and how to answer questions regarding likes/dislikes. Students will also learn to answer questions about places.
