Short Description: This text is an atoms-first adaptation of OpenStax Chemistry 2e. The intention of “atoms-first” involves a few basic principles: first, it introduces atomic and molecular structure much earlier than the traditional approach, and it threads these themes through subsequent chapters. This approach may be chosen as a way to delay the introduction of material such as stoichiometry that students traditionally find abstract and difficult, thereby allowing students time to acclimate their study skills to chemistry. Additionally, it gives students a basis for understanding the application of quantitative principles to the chemistry that underlies the entire course. It also aims to center the study of chemistry on the atomic foundation that many will expand upon in a later course covering organic chemistry, easing that transition when the time arrives.

Chemistry: Atoms First is a peer-reviewed, openly licensed introductory textbook produced through a collaborative publishing partnership between OpenStax and the University of Connecticut and UConn Undergraduate Student Government Association.
This title is an adaptation of the OpenStax Chemistry text and covers scope and sequence requirements of the two-semester general chemistry course. Reordered to fit an atoms first approach, this title introduces atomic and molecular structure much earlier than the traditional approach, delaying the introduction of more abstract material so students have time to acclimate to the study of chemistry. Chemistry: Atoms First also provides a basis for understanding the application of quantitative principles to the chemistry that underlies the entire course.

Chemistry Behind the Magic features videos of exciting live chemistry demonstrations. The videos are enhanced by explanations of the science behind the demonstration, in a fun and easy-to-understand format. This set of videos showcases exciting live chemistry demonstrations held at MIT. Through the magic of chemistry, Dr. John Dolhun and Dr. Bassam Shakhashiri create things that steam, fizzle, and glow. Each video also provides a deeper look into the chemistry that makes it all possible. For teachers, we have provided supporting materials to help you understand and replicate the experiments in your own classrooms. These videos can be watched in any order. WARNING NOTICE The experiments described in these materials are potentially hazardous. Among other things, the experiments should include the following safety measures: a high level of safety training, special facilities and equipment, the use of proper personal protective equipment, and supervision by appropriate individuals. You bear the sole responsibility, liability, and risk for the implementation of such safety procedures and measures. MIT and Dow shall have no responsibility, liability, or risk for the content or implementation of any of the material presented. Legal Notice

Chemistry Education Research and Practice (CERP) is the journal for teachers, researchers and other practitioners at all levels of chemistry education. It is published free of charge, electronically, four times a year; coverage includes the following:
-Research, and reviews of research, in chemistry education -Evaluations of effective innovative practice in the teaching of chemistry -In-depth analyses of issues of direct relevance to chemistry education
The objectives of the journal follow:
-To provide researchers with the means to publish their work in full in a journal exclusively dedicated to chemistry education -To offer teachers of chemistry at all levels a place where they can share effective ideas and methods for the teaching and learning of chemistry -Most importantly, to bridge the gap between the two groups so that researchers will have their results seen by those who could benefit from using them, and practitioners will gain from encountering the ideas and results of those who have made a particular study of the learning process
