This ice breaker activity fosters community in the classroom by asking students to find classmates who match the information noted in the boxes. The unique tidbits of student information in each box are based on notes taken by the teacher during Ice Breaker #1 (Interview a classmate and present the classmate to the class) from the first day of class. Ice Breaker #2 - Find Someone Who is a timed activity which affords students approximately 15 to walk around the room to talk and find signatures for their boxes.
A sample template is provided to offer ideas about what sorts of information can be included for the activity. A blank template with the title, directions for the activity, and the number of boxes needed to match the number of student in a given class can be created in Word using the table feature.
To use the template the instructor needs to type information for each student in the class into the boxes, save it, and then print one handout for every class member. As an optional addition, the teacher can include one box with her/his personal information and do the ice breaker with the students. The template can be saved and used semester after semester with new information for each class.
